SUMMARY
The County of Montgomery, the third most populous County in Pennsylvania, is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team of attorneys in the Solicitor’s Office. In this position you will provide legal representation to the County, its departments and personnel in a variety of contexts described below. 

This public service position offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced attorneys to provide legal services to all County Departments. The attorneys in the Solicitor’s Office have the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting cases and projects. The Solicitor's Office offers a collaborative work environment, where solicitors from all practice areas work together to develop the best solutions for clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Overseeing legal issues arising from Title VII, ADA and FMLA;
  • Overseeing employment law cases;
  • Participating in collective bargaining/union negotiations;
  • Provides recommendations to clients (management), specifically office of Human Resources;
  • Participates in litigation which may involve complex settlement negotiations. 
  • Reviewing and drafting contracts.
  • Representing the County in general litigation matters.
  • Representing the County in real estate transactions.
  • Representing the County at mental health commitment hearings.
  • Representing County-related boards at public meetings.
  • Representing County social service agencies in administrative proceedings
  • Providing day-to-day legal advice to County departments.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervising attorneys. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.   • At least 5 years of employment litigation experience;
  • Knowledge of employment law as well as collective bargaining agreements;
  • Knowledge of legal issues arising from Title VII, the ADA, FMLA, and related employment law;
  • Experience defending Workers Compensation matters a plus;  
  • Law degree from an accredited law school and member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar.
