Deputy Sheriff

An entry level position, deputies receive structured and closely supervised training from higher level deputies for a period not to exceed 18 months. On the job training will be supplemented by attendance at training institutes and academic course work at higher education facilities. Pursuant to 16 P S 1205, the Sheriff of each County may appoint such deputies as may be necessary to properly transact the business of his office; to assist him in the executing of any civil or criminal process, court order, or in preserving the peace.
 

Qualifications:

Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth school grade with a minimum of 60 credit hours of college or military experience and 30 credit hours. Additionally, deputies are required to have Act 120, Municipal Police training and the Waiver course at the PA Sheriff’s academy (Act 2), or attend the PA Sheriff’s academy (Act 2).
